Here is the sketch I used to create the book cover (well, one of the three sketches I made), shown next to the final digital version.
I chose to design the cover myself for a simple reason: I unfortunately don’t have the budget to hire a professional artist, and I didn’t want to use some random royalty‑free stock image that has nothing to do with the story :)

Finally, after a few additional delays, both the English and Norwegian editions are now published. The English edition is available worldwide, and the Norwegian edition is available through nearly all Norwegian bookstores. The e‑book versions are not yet live, but they should appear within the next few days.

The Norwegian edition of Waves of Life and Death – Bremen (Bølger av Liv og Død – Bremen) will soon be available in Norway.

Being Dutch, having lived almost half my life in Norway, and having learned English as a child has made me multilingual.
I often prefer to write in English and then translate into Norwegian and then Dutch.

Knowing all three languages allows me to handle most of the translation work myself. As an indie author, I do not have a large budget for hiring translators, so translating from English into Norwegian and Dutch is simply one of many tasks I am happy to do on my own.

As of today, there is not yet a publishable Dutch translation of Waves of Life and Death, but it will become available during 2026.

Today the first book, Waves of Life and Death - Bremen, has been completed and will be available internationally soon.

I started writing these very first words back in August, 2025:
“In a narrow street where the smell of wet straw, smoke, and horse dung mingled, an insignificant half‑timbered house leaned against its neighbours, one of many in this crowded corner of the city.”

It took me about seven months to go from those first words to the finished manuscript. I originally wrote two parallel stories, one set in Bremen and the other in Lübeck. But in early November 2025 I realised I had to divide the material into two separate parts of the series. The good thing is that I have already written roughly half of the second book, and there is a very good chance that Part 2, Lübeck, will be released in 2026 as well.

Of course, writing the remaining half of Part 2, editing, rewriting, editing again, and going through an existential crisis about nine times along the way will take several months. Even so, I think it is realistic to say that Part 2 will be released in late 2026.

These are the first words written on the Waves of Life and Death official website. It will be a long time before anything more is added here, as I'm still very much in the process of finishing the first book.
